MVLS Futures Fellow in the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health at the University of Glasgow, Michael Stringer focuses on enhancing the accuracy and sensitivity of in vivo measurements of vascular dysfunction. He investigates patients suffering from small vessel disease, which is linked to the causes of strokes and dementias. With a foundational background in mathematics (BSc (Hons) from the University of Glasgow and MSc from Heriot-Watt University), he completed his PhD in medical imaging at the University of Aberdeen in 2016. His primary research interests involve developing and employing quantitative MRI techniques to evaluate the haemodynamic and metabolic characteristics of patients. Stringer plays a pivotal role in several multicentre imaging initiatives, including H2020 funded projects and various clinical trials concerning stroke and small vessel disease, alongside longitudinal studies examining conditions such as sleep apnea and mild stroke. He supervises PhD candidates and is involved in collaborative projects that innovate MRI methodologies for assessing cerebrovascular health in relation to small vessel diseases and dementia.
