Dr. Michael Szonyi

Biography

Michael Szonyi is the Frank Wen-hsiung Wu Professor of Chinese History at Harvard University, where he is also a Faculty Associate of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. His research focuses on the modern history of rural China and the social and economic history of China from the fifteenth century to the present. Szonyi contributes to the fields of East Asian historical studies and engages in various academic committees, including the Executive Committee and the Steering Committee. His work examines crucial transformations in Chinese society and economy, while highlighting the political and cultural dimensions that shape historical narratives in the region.
