Biography

Michael Telch is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has been a member of the clinical psychology faculty since 1986. As the founding director of the Laboratory for Study of Anxiety Disorders and the Director of Clinical Training, he is recognized internationally for his scientific research on the nature and treatment of panic and anxiety-related disorders. His work has addressed a broad range of questions concerning the treatment of pathological fear across the spectrum of anxiety disorders, employing various research strategies including clinical trials and experimental psychopathology. Telch has served as a scientific advisor for the National Institute of Mental Health's Anxiety Disorders Education Program and Panic Disorder Program. He holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Stanford University, along with an M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of the Pacific and University of Massachusetts, Amherst, respectively. Throughout his career, he has contributed significantly to the fields of agoraphobia, anxiety phobic disorders, and behavioral therapies, and has been involved in editing leading scientific journals in psychology.
