Biography

Professor Michael J. Telch, Ph.D., received his doctorate from Stanford University in 1983, where he also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in behavioral medicine and cardiovascular epidemiology. He joined the clinical psychology faculty at the University of Texas at Austin in 1986, where he is now a professor and founding director of the Laboratory for Study of Anxiety Disorders. Dr. Telch is internationally recognized for his scientific research on the nature and treatment of panic and anxiety-related disorders. He has served as a scientific advisor for the National Institute of Mental Health’s Anxiety Disorders Education Program and Panic Disorder Program. His published work explores a broad range of questions related to the nature and treatment of pathological fear, employing various research strategies such as clinical trials and experimental psychopathology. Dr. Telch has trained many graduate students who have made significant contributions in the field of anxiety disorders.
