Dr. Michael Tomlinson

Biography

Professor Michael Tomlinson is focused on the nexus of higher education, work, and employability. His research interests include higher education policy, labour markets, marketisation, and the construction of identities in relation to social changes impacting institutions and stakeholders. He combines critical conceptual analysis with an interest in developing practical tools and resources to aid future career progression. His work regularly explores the value and meaning of current and future employment, helping individuals to develop their work identities. He has received funding from notable bodies such as ESRC, UKRI, and the Higher Education Academy, contributing to a robust agenda in education research. He serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals and has a significant supervisory role in doctoral education, mentoring many students toward successful completions.
