Michael Toole is an Assistant Professor in the Japanese Studies Program within the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures. He earned his Ph.D. with a minor in Visual Cultures from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and his A.M. in Japanese Literature from Washington University in St. Louis. His current book project, "Queering Order: Visualizing Sexualities and Bodies in Print Culture of Early Modern Japan," examines how authors and artists navigated the complex intersections of sexual, visual, and bodily ordering in that historical context.
