Biography

Michael Urban is an Honorary Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford. He serves as Chief Sustainability Strategist at Lombard Odier Group, having joined the firm in 2020. In this role, he supports the Managing Partners in designing and implementing the Group’s global sustainable investment strategy. Additionally, he manages the firm's academic partnership with the University of Oxford, where he holds an Honorary Research Fellowship and is a member of Oriel College. Prior to his current position, Michael was a Research Associate at the University of Oxford’s Centre for the Environment, leading research initiatives as part of a European Research Council-funded project titled "Finance for Development in the 21st Century." He has also held teaching positions at both the University of Oxford and the University of Bristol, and previously worked at Pictet & Cie, focusing on thematic socially responsible investments (SRI) funds. Michael obtained a BSc in Management from HEC Lausanne, an MSc in Environment, Politics, and Globalization from King’s College London, and a PhD in Economic Geography from the University of Oxford.
