Biography

Michael Wagner, born in Münster, Germany, studied physics and mathematics. He graduated with a Diplomphysiker degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich in 1973, with a thesis on computer simulation of elementary particle spectrometers. In 1979, he earned a PhD in computer science from the Australian National University, focusing on the acoustic analysis of speaker characteristics. Dr. Wagner has held various research and teaching positions at the Technical University of Munich, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Wollongong, among others. In 1996, he became Chair of Computing at the University of Canberra, where he led the School of Computing and the Discipline of Software Engineering, and directed both the Human-Computer Communication Lab and the National Centre for Biometric Studies. Additionally, he has served as a visiting researcher at universities in Amsterdam and Hong Kong, as well as at Siemens Research Laboratories in Munich. He has authored more than 200 refereed publications in the field of speech science technology.
