Dr. Michael Walls

Biography

Michael Walls is a Professor at University College London's Development Planning Unit (DPU), with over twelve years of experience in senior management within the private sector. He lectures on 'market-led approaches to development' and has significant experience in NGOs and social transformation, as well as in teaching development management. His expertise extends to international relations with a focus on the Somali Horn of Africa, where he has engaged in election observation missions and research into the impact of climate change on the region. His work as a Chief Observer includes overseeing the 2017 Presidential Election in Somaliland. Michael has actively contributed to research on climate change impacts and informal economies in regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. He is also involved in various projects aimed at enhancing policy engagement related to climate change and is a board member for several organizations in the field of urban research and Somali arts and culture.
