Dr. Michael Warner

Biography

Michael Warner is the Seymour H. Knox Professor of English and American Studies at Yale University, where he has actively contributed to the fields of early American literature and print culture. He received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1985. Warner's scholarly work encompasses a variety of topics, including the theoretical frameworks of public discourse, the dynamics of social movements, and the intersections of literature and journalism. His interests further extend into significant subjects like new media, intellectual property, and secularism. Over the years, he has published extensively on sexuality, politics, and the public sphere, often exploring how social worlds are constructed through circulating media and the methods through which reading and listening occur. Currently, he is investigating the early history of evangelicalism in America and the impacts of climate change, with a notable project titled 'Evangelical Public Sphere in Eighteenth-Century America,' based on lectures he delivered at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to being a respected author, Warner has held significant academic roles, including leading Tanner lectures focused on infrastructural ethics and environmental concerns.
