Biography

Michael Watson is a Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New South Wales. He specializes in Mathematical Biology, focusing on the development, analysis, and solution of mathematical models to explain complex biological and physical systems that cannot be understood solely through experimental methods. His techniques include partial differential equation models, individual-based models, and pore network models. His research includes studying the formation patterns of tissues in multi-cellular systems, with a focus on cell migration, cellular signaling, and tissue remodeling. Specific applied works of his research have addressed problems in wound healing, retinal vasculature development, and atherosclerotic plaque growth. Additionally, Watson has explored pore-scale modeling of fluid flow in porous media, contributing to enhanced oil recovery techniques in hydrocarbon reservoirs.
