Dr. Michael Wellman

Biography

Michael P. Wellman is the Lynn Conway Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He received his PhD in 1988 and has over 30 years of research experience in the domain of qualitative probabilistic reasoning and decision-theoretic planning. His primary research interests include computational market mechanisms and game-theoretic reasoning methods, focusing on applications in electronic commerce, finance, and cyber-security. Notable roles include Chief Market Technologist at TradingDynamics, Inc., where he designed configurable auction technology for dynamic business-to-business commerce. Wellman has also served as the Chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Electronic Commerce and as the Executive Editor for the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research. He is a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the Association for Computing Machinery.
