Biography

Michael O. Wolf is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on the discovery of new materials for electronic and photonic applications. His research program emphasizes the synthesis of new organic and inorganic materials, studying their properties using a variety of techniques, and evaluating their applications. Current projects include Tunable Bridged Chromophores, whereby small chemical changes at the bridging site of aromatic systems enable the control of electronic communication and charge transfer properties. Additionally, his work on Stimuli Responsive Fluorescent Dyes examines how changes in solvent, temperature, and light modify the emission lifetime and wavelength of fluorescent molecules, utilizing fluorescence microscopy techniques. Other research interests encompass photochemical materials that leverage light stimuli to modify the properties of molecular dyes, single crystals, and polymers. Over the years, he has been recognized with several awards, including the Killam Research Award and the Award for Pure and Applied Inorganic Chemistry. He holds a B.Sc. from Dalhousie University and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
