Biography

Michaela Lucas is a Clinical Professor and Clinical Immunologist/Allergist with expertise in immunopathology. She leads a multidisciplinary team of clinical and basic science researchers and collaborates with microsurgeons and technicians in the Immunology Transplantation Lab. Completing her medical training in Germany, she was awarded the Marie Curie Research Fellowship and undertook a four-year postdoctoral position at the University of Oxford, where she specialized in liver T-cell immunology. Her research interests encompass T cell immunology, the pathogenesis of T cell-mediated drug allergies, anti-viral T cell responses, and vaccine development, with a significant focus on the role of inflammation in adaptive immunity and organ transplantation. Currently, Professor Lucas is spearheading a groundbreaking research study investigating the health impacts of plastic exposure. She has published 150 peer-reviewed papers and has secured multiple national and international research grants as a principal co-investigator. In addition, she is actively involved in randomized controlled trials on antibiotic allergies and is recognized as a leading clinician in Drug Allergy Management in Australia. Professor Lucas has held various prestigious positions including past President of the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) and co-Director of the National Allergy Council (NAC).
