Biography

Michaela Reichmann is an Associate Professor in Respiratory Medicine at the University of Southampton. She completed her PhD in 2021 and holds a NIHR Clinical Lectureship Certificate, finishing her training in Respiratory General Internal Medicine in 2022. Her PhD work has allowed her to develop skills in bioinformatics and advanced cell culture for studying Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Michaela's primary research output utilizes clinical samples from untreated tuberculosis and sarcoidosis patients to study early disease development, where she identified critical pathways. Concurrently, she performed work in a containment level 3 laboratory using 3-dimensional cell culture to identify cellular models that exhibit similar gene signatures to tuberculosis patient samples. Her research focuses on integrating transcriptomic data to identify potential new host-directed therapeutic targets for lung diseases. Michaela actively accepts PhD students, contributing to the next generation of researchers in her field.
