Biography

Michal S. Gal is a Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and a Professor at the University of Haifa, Israel. She serves as the President of the International Academic Society Competition Law Scholars (ASCOLA), which comprises over 600 competition researchers worldwide. Gal has held visiting professorships at prestigious institutions such as the University of Chicago, New York University, Columbia University, Georgetown University, the University of Melbourne, the National University of Singapore, and Bocconi University. She is the author of the book 'Competition Policy in Small Market Economies' published by Harvard University Press in 2003, and has published numerous scholarly articles in leading journals on topics intersecting competition law, intellectual property, law and technology, the effects of market regulation, and the implications of algorithms and big data. Gal has received numerous awards for her research and teaching, including the Jerry S. Cohen Medal from the American Antitrust Institute for her antitrust paper published in 2017. In 2019, she was honored with the highest award given at her university for her work as a Senior Researcher. In October 2022, she was recognized as one of the 25 most influential competition academics (in law and economics) in the world by Global Competition Review. In April 2024, she will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Gal is a proud graduate of the University of Toronto.
