Biography

Michal Oklot is an Associate Professor in Slavic Studies at Brown University. He holds a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Northwestern University. His research focuses on Russian and Polish modernism, and he has published extensively on 19th and 20th-century literature, with significant contributions analyzing the works of Gogol, Chekhov, Rozanov, Shestov, Schulz, and Gombrowicz. Currently, he is exploring the intersection of Russian literature and speculative thought, proposing alternative conceptions of materialism and matter. His book, 'Phantasms of Matter: Gogol (and Gombrowicz),' was published by Dalkey Archive Press in 2009. Before joining Brown, Oklot taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the American University in Cairo, and the University of Warsaw, covering subjects in Slavic studies, comparative literature, and sociology.
