Michal Valášek is a Project Leader in the Electronics Research Unit: Synthetic Chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He studied Chemistry at Charles University in Prague, where he obtained his Master's degree in 2002, focusing on the synthesis of pyridinium oligomers for molecular electronics applications. He continued his studies at Charles University under the supervision of Dr. Jaroslav Pecka and Professor Václav Všetečka, working on the synthesis of modular components for molecular electronics. His PhD research included a stint as a visiting researcher at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in the group led by Professor Josef Michl from 2002 to 2003. Between 2003 and 2009, he served as a teaching assistant at Charles University. In 2010, he joined the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral fellow in Professor Michl's group at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Currently, he is part of Professor Marcel Mayor's group in Karlsruhe, focusing on the synthesis of azobenzene molecular switches and the development of new molecular anchoring groups for molecular electronics.
