Biography

Michał J. Wilczewski is an Associate Professor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Northwestern University and an affiliate of the Department of History. He is a historian specializing in modern East-Central Europe, particularly Poland and Polish culture. He regularly teaches courses in Polish language, literature, culture, and history, as well as courses related to history and sexuality. Michał serves as the faculty advisor for the Polish American Student Alliance (PASA) and is a Faculty Fellow at Willard Residential College. His research interests include the everyday life of ordinary people and marginalized populations in Poland, focusing on gaining recognition and access to state power. His current research project examines discourses about morality in Poland during the interwar period, exploring various artists and spaces involved in producing what was considered 'pornographic.' Michał holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and has previously taught Polish history, language, and literature courses at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Loyola University Chicago. He is also involved in academic translation and serves as the current book review editor for Polish American Studies.
