Biography

Michał J. Wilczewski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Northwestern University. He is a historian specializing in modern East-Central Europe, particularly Polish culture. He regularly teaches courses on Polish language, literature, and history, and serves as the faculty advisor for the Polish American Student Alliance. His current research focuses on everyday life in the interwar Polish countryside, culminating in a book project entitled "Broken Land: Everyday Life Reconstruction Polish Countryside, 1914-1939." This project highlights the experiences of rural dwellers as they transitioned from imperial subjects to citizens of a nation-state following World War I. Additionally, he is exploring the discourses surrounding sexuality and morality in interwar Poland in a project titled "Sex Time Sanacja: Debates Morality Interwar Poland". He has also been involved in creating Polish-language teaching materials and mapping Polish-American spaces in the Chicago area.
