Biography

Michala Kowalski is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) at UNSW. She was awarded her PhD in 2024 with a mixed-methods study focused on alcohol policy in New South Wales, examining the role of evidence in policymaking and the leading problematisations of alcohol policy. Michala’s current research program concentrates on alcohol policy, cannabis policy, evolving drug markets, and harm reduction strategies. She is an active member of the Global Cannabis Cultivation Research Consortium and the Drug Policy Modelling Program Network, and serves as a co-convenor for the Safe(r) Supply Network in Australia.
