Biography

Michel-Alexandre Cardin is an Associate Professor in Engineering Systems Design at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London. He directs the Strategic Engineering Laboratory. Before joining Imperial College, he was a faculty member at the National University of Singapore from 2011 to 2018 and established the Strategic Engineering Laboratory. Cardin has worked as a Quantitative Researcher in the hedge fund industry, focusing on developing systematic strategies for derivatives trading using machine learning. He has been the principal investigator for the Singapore-ETH Centre Future Resilient Systems project and the Singapore-MIT Alliance Research Technology. He holds a PhD in Engineering Systems and a Master of Science in Technology and Policy from MIT, a Master of Applied Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto, and an Honors BSc in Physics from McGill University. He has also participated in the Space Science Program at the International Space University. Cardin serves as an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design and has held editorial positions with various engineering journals. His work encompasses building a global community of academics and practitioners centered on Strategic Engineering.
