Biography

Michel Bock is a full professor in the Department of History at the University of Ottawa and an associate professor at the Université de Sudbury, specializing in the intellectual history of Quebec and French Canada. His research focuses on the factors that contributed to the rise and decline of French Canada as an identity reference and institutional reality, as well as the origin and scope of various projects that have succeeded it within Canadian Francophonie. He is also interested in how social movements, particularly engaged Franco-Ontarian youth, conceived of social change in the 20th century. Currently, he is the interim director of the Canadian Francophonie Research Center (CRCCF), a member of the Charlevoix Society, and director of the "French America" collection, co-published by the CRCCF and the University of Ottawa Press. His work has earned him several accolades, including the Governor General's Award of Canada, the Michel-Brunet Award from the Institute of the History of French America, the Champlain Award from the Council of French Life in America, and a medal from the National Assembly of Quebec.
