Biography

Michel Magnan is a Distinguished University Research Professor and the Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Corporate Governance at Concordia University's John Molson School of Business. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Washington and is a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA). Dr. Magnan was inducted into the Royal Society of Canada in 2014 and has received several prestigious awards, including the Yvan Allaire Medal for Governance in 2023 and the Haim Falk Award in 2024 from the Canadian Academic Accounting Association. His research encompasses a wide array of topics including financial reporting, fair value accounting, corporate disclosure, governance, and corporate social responsibility, and he has published over 150 articles in leading academic and professional journals. He has served in multiple capacities including as the past Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Accounting Research and as a member of Canada’s Accounting Standards Board from 2011 to 2017. As an educator, Dr. Magnan has been teaching since 1982 and instructs at the MBA, EMBA, and Ph.D. levels in subjects such as business valuation and financial reporting. He is also involved in executive education and has held visiting appointments at several renowned international business schools.
