Michel Steinmetz studied theology both in Strasbourg and Paris. He earned a Master in Theology (licentia docendi) in Sacred Arts with a thesis on the communal celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours. He is a Doctor in Religious Anthropology and History of Religions from Sorbonne, and also holds a Doctorate in Theology from the Institut Catholique de Paris, where he defended a thesis on the ministerial function of sacred music. Since 2011, he has been a charged lecturer at the Catholic Theology Faculty of the University of Strasbourg, teaching courses in Liturgical Theology and Sacramental Theology. He is part of the UR4377 research team participating in systematic theology activities and is a member of the ‘Rites and Spirituality’ research team, contributing to the Religion, Culture, and Society research unit. Steinmetz is also involved in editorial work for the journal La Maison-Dieu and participates in the Working Group of Catholic Liturgical Scholars in the German-speaking area. His research interests include Liturgical Theology, the relationship between liturgy and ecclesiology, and the role of liturgy as a resource for grounding in a living Tradition. He has also worked as a priest in the Diocese of Strasbourg, where he has served as a parish priest, Director of the Diocesan Service for Liturgical and Sacramental Pastoral Care, Sacred Music and Sacred Art, and President of the Union Sainte-Cécile. He has been the ceremony master for the Archbishop of Strasbourg.
