Biography

Michele Bird is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Applied Exercise Science Graduate Faculty at the University of Michigan's School of Kinesiology. With a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and board certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, she has over 28 years of experience and expertise in orthopedics, focusing on chronic pain evaluation and treatment, sports rehabilitation, and women’s health. Since 2018, she has taught anatomy and biomechanics, dedicating herself to providing high-quality practical instruction to Kinesiology students. Michele is passionate about fostering student growth and development throughout their academic journeys and feels a strong responsibility to help prepare adaptable professionals for the evolving health and fitness landscape. She also operates a hybrid private practice model that incorporates both in-person and telehealth services. Her work includes facilitating Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) agreements for Division III athletes, creating a rewarding experience in her business venture. Her research interests include student self-efficacy, pedagogical practices, the reliability and validity of biomechanical assessment tools, behavioral modifications for chronic pain, and lifestyle medicine, which encompasses chronic illness and longevity.
