Dr. Michele Buzon

Biography

Michele Buzon is a professor at Purdue University, specializing in bioarchaeology and paleopathology. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2004 and joined Purdue's faculty in 2007. Her research primarily focuses on burial archaeology in the Nile Valley, particularly in ancient Nubia and Egypt. Buzon utilizes mortuary skeletal data to explore the consequences of contact between different populations and maintains an active field site at Tombos, Sudan, where she investigates the effects of Nubian-Egyptian contact on identity and health during the New Kingdom and Napatan periods. She directs the analysis of skeletal remains from Tombos, which are curated at Purdue University. Buzon's scholarly contributions include articles published in prominent archaeological and anthropological journals, reflecting her extensive research on various aspects of bioarchaeology. Her work has received funding from organizations such as the National Science Foundation and the National Geographic Society. She has held several academic positions at Purdue, transitioning from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, and now to Professor of Anthropology.
