Dr. Michèle Lamont

Biography

Michèle Lamont is the Robert Goldman Professor of European Studies at Harvard University, where she is also a Professor in the Departments of Sociology and African and African American Studies. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard and is the Chair of the Weatherhead Research Cluster on Comparative Inequality and Inclusion. Her research interests encompass the social dimensions of culture and inequality, racism and stigma, the role of academia in knowledge production, and the dynamics of social change in successful societies. She employs qualitative methods to explore these themes, contributing to a deeper understanding of how cultural factors influence social structures and outcomes. Lamont is actively involved in various scholarly initiatives and frequently engages with interdisciplinary teams to further advance research in these critical areas.
