Biography

Michele Panzavolta studied law at the University of Bologna, Italy, and earned his doctorate at the University of Urbino, Italy, with a thesis on the function of nullities in a criminal procedure. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Bologna and was a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge. Prior to his appointment at KU Leuven, Michele served for several years as a university lecturer at Maastricht University. He is also a practicing lawyer at the Bar of Bologna, Italy. His specialization includes European and international criminal law and comparative legal research in criminal law and criminal procedure. His research interests cover topics related to intelligence services, cybercrime, juvenile criminal law, financial crime, and the recovery of assets in criminal proceedings, as well as the overall protection of individual rights in criminal cases. He is currently the Vice Dean for Internationalization.
