Biography

Michelle Axford is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. She is the director of the clinical Molecular Genetics laboratory within the Genome Diagnostics of the Department of Pediatric Laboratory Medicine at SickKids. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic instability in rare disorders caused by the expansion of trinucleotide repeats. She obtained her PhD from the University of Toronto's Department of Molecular Genetics. Her work includes several notable publications related to genetic disorders, such as alvealor capillary dysplasia and situs inversus associated with sideroblastic anemia. Axford has also contributed to studies focusing on the detection of slipped-DNAs in myotonic dystrophy and the mechanisms regulating trinucleotide repeat instability.
