Michelle represents clients charged with criminal and quasi-criminal offences and professional discipline matters. Her practice includes trials and appeals, with a particular focus on appellate advocacy. She has appeared in trial and appellate courts across Canada and has argued multiple cases on behalf of parties and interveners in the Supreme Court of Canada. Prior to joining her current firm in 2017, Michelle served as a law clerk to Justice Russell Brown and Justice Marshall Rothstein at the Supreme Court of Canada. She previously practiced criminal law as an associate lawyer at a large firm in her home province of Saskatchewan. Michelle completed her articles by clerking for Chief Justice Richards, Justice Lane, and Justice Ryan-Froslie at the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal and was called to the bar in 2015. As a sole author and co-author, Michelle has published numerous academic articles in law journals across Canada, the United States, and Australia, focusing on topics such as constitutional law, criminal law, administrative law, international law, and Aboriginal law. She is a member of the bars in Saskatchewan and Ontario, as well as several legal associations. Michelle received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Saskatchewan in 2011, majoring in International Cooperation and Conflict, and went on to attend the University of Saskatchewan College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor with Great Distinction in 2014. She has received multiple scholarships and awards during law school and has competed in the Jessup Moot from 2013 to 2014, winning several prizes for oral and written advocacy. In 2017, she clerked for Justice Alan S. Diner at the Federal Court and in 2018, for Justice John B. Laskin at the Federal Court of Appeal. Currently, she is pursuing a Master's Certificate in Legal Writing at the Academy of American Legal Writers.
