Biography

Dr. Michelle Cao is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist at Stanford Health Care, where she serves as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine. She completed her fellowship in sleep medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and another in pulmonary and critical care medicine at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine. Dr. Cao is dedicated to providing home assisted ventilation for patients suffering from chronic respiratory failure and neuromuscular diseases. Her clinical research focuses on improving adherence to noninvasive ventilation programs in these patients. A prolific author, she has written extensively for peer-reviewed publications, including the Annals of the American Thoracic Society and the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, and has contributed to more than a dozen book chapters in her field. Dr. Cao has also held prominent roles within various professional organizations, including serving as President of the California Thoracic Society and being a Fellow of both the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. Her teaching has been recognized with several awards, including the Woman of the Year Award from the California Thoracic Society and the Distinguished CHEST Educator Award from the American College of Chest Physicians.
