Biography

Michelle Carter is a Professor of Information Systems at the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester. She earned her PhD in Management (Information Systems) from Clemson University, SC. Her research focuses on the involvement of information technologies in identity and social change, as well as the factors that shape usage behaviors and the management of information systems. Her work has been published in numerous prestigious journals including MIS Quarterly, the European Journal of Information Systems, the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and the Journal of Information Technology. She serves as the DEI Director and senior editor for MIS Quarterly and has previously held the position of co-Editor-in-Chief for AIS Transactions on Replication Research. Michelle is a Distinguished Member – Cum Laude of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and has served as past president of the AIS Special Interest Group in Social Inclusion, where she chaired initiatives on diversity and inclusion. Between 2021 and 2024, she served on the AIS Council as Vice President of Special Interest Groups. Her expertise aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals established in 2015, particularly in relation to education and social inclusion.
