Dr. Michelle Gallas

Biography

Michelle Gallas is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Dell Medical School with over a decade of experience caring for Austin’s fragile and vulnerable populations, particularly children. She has been pivotal in the creation of a medical safety net under Central Health’s commitment to support the under-resourced and underserved in Travis County. Gallas addresses the complexities of her patients who often are medically and socially disadvantaged, including recent immigrants and refugees. She leads an innovative pediatric group visit program called Centering Parenting, which focuses on health maintenance visits, also known as well-child checks, for children that participate in group sessions over a four-year cohort period. Gallas is also deeply committed to resident education, supervising Dell Medical School’s pediatric residents and medical students at the primary continuity site, East Austin CommUnityCare Health Center. Her efforts demonstrate a strong focus on rethinking the role of academic medicine in improving community health through person-centered and integrated care models.
