Michelle completed a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honors majoring in Molecular Biology at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2002. She worked in the laboratory of Professor Doug Higgs at the MRC Haematology Unit in Oxford, UK, and returned to the University of Sydney to complete her PhD studies from 2004 to 2008, while being awarded the Cancer Institute of NSW Research Scholar Award. Following her PhD, she joined the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute as a post-doctoral researcher, studying epigenetic control of gene regulation in the laboratory of Professor Catherine Suter. Michelle later took an RCUK Academic Fellowship in Professor Vardhman Rakyan’s laboratory at the Blizard Institute in London, UK. As a post-doctoral researcher, she expanded her interest in the role of epigenetic mechanisms as mediators of gene-environment interactions. In 2017, she joined King’s College London as a Lecturer and principal investigator of the Epigenetics and Post-transcriptional Gene Regulation group. Her research focuses on the mechanisms linking extracellular signaling to changes in gene expression and cell behavior, emphasizing the impact of RNA in biomedical research and its role in the transfer of information from DNA to protein.
