Biography

Michelle Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also holds a secondary appointment as an Associate Professor in Bioengineering. She completed her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, focusing on mechatronics, robotics, and design. Following her doctorate, Dr. Johnson undertook a post-doctoral NSF-NATO fellowship at the Advanced Robotics Technology Systems Laboratory at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Italy. She currently directs the Rehabilitation Robotics Lab at the Perelman School of Medicine, which is affiliated with the GRASP Lab at Penn. Her research primarily centers on utilizing robotics to better understand the recovery of upper extremity function following brain injuries.
