Biography

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow historian specializing in East Africa, specifically Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. My research is part of the ERC-funded project, African Abolitionism: Rise Transformations Anti-Slavery Africa (AFRAB). My work has focused on contextualizing anti-slavery legal documents and compiling biographical accounts of the intermediaries involved in ending slavery. I completed my doctorate at the University of Cambridge, where my thesis centered on labor history and the Christian mission, particularly the Universities’ Mission to Central Africa in Zanzibar and Tanganyika. From 2018 to 2019, I taught at the University of Birmingham, assisting with the module 'Slavery and Freedom in Twentieth Century Africa.' During my parental leave in 2020, I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, where I developed a book manuscript that culminated in my publication, Labour and Christianity Mission, released in 2021 by James Currey.
