Dr. Michelle Munro Kramer

Biography

Michelle Munro-Kramer is an Associate Professor and Director of Global Programs in the Department of Health Behavior and Clinical Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. Her research primarily focuses on the prevention and response to gender-based violence, particularly among college-age youth in both domestic and international settings. She is a notable fellow of the Johnson & Johnson Nurse Innovation Fellowship, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions to complex health and human rights issues such as intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Her methodologies often involve trauma-informed and patient-centered approaches, utilizing mixed methods and participatory action research to gain insights into the experiences of vulnerable populations. Her global health work has taken her to countries such as Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, and Zambia. In addition to her research, she teaches courses focused on gender-based violence and collaborates with colleagues to create educational programs aimed at addressing intimate partner violence and human trafficking in healthcare settings. She has received several awards for her contributions to nursing and research, including the Recent Graduate Achievement Award from Michigan State University and the Rising Star Award from Sigma Theta Tau International.
