Dr. Michelle Myall

Biography

Michelle Myall has a social sciences background with a focus on Sociology and Women's Studies. She has worked in research across several academic disciplines including medical sociology and health sciences. Myall has held academic positions at University College London and the University of Portsmouth, where she led a research unit in a relevant sector organization. Her extensive experience includes leading and conducting research in health and social care, coupled with methodological expertise in qualitative and mixed-method studies. Myall's research is primarily centered around death, dying, and bereavement, particularly enhancing the experiences of those living with life-limiting conditions. Her specific interest revolves around domestic abuse, as she concentrates on ensuring that research findings are effectively translated into real-world health and social care practices. Myall leads her own research program focused on the co-existence of domestic abuse and long-term life-limiting conditions, specifically through the DALLI study which aims to develop a toolkit for practitioners in hospice and palliative care to help detect and respond to domestic abuse.
