Michelle Percharde is an epigenetics stem cell biologist who currently heads the Chromatin Development Research Group at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS). With a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Reproductive Developmental Biology from Imperial College London, she has developed expertise in transcriptional and epigenetic regulation during early development. Michelle's research focuses on understanding how transposons are co-opted to regulate essential developmental processes, as well as the consequences of their misregulation in contributing to disease. Her postdoctoral training was completed at the University of California at San Francisco under Professor Miguel Ramalho-Santos, where she was awarded the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Postdoctoral Fellowship. Since joining the LMS in 2019, she has received UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships to support her work in chromatin and development. Outside of her research, Michelle enjoys biking, creating furniture with her husband, scuba diving, and baking.
