Biography

Dr. Michelle Porter has a BPHE from Laurentian University, an MSc in Community Health from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. She completed a multi-site MRC Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the New England Medical Center/Tufts University and Lund University in Sweden. Dr. Porter has dedicated her career to studying various aspects of aging, including physical activity, neuromuscular function, mobility, and age-friendly environments. She has been involved in the international research team, Candrive, which focuses on older drivers. Dr. Porter has secured funding from prominent agencies such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. Since 2015, she has served as the Director of the Centre on Aging at the University of Manitoba, where she has been a leader in promoting age inclusivity initiatives. As a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, she actively participates in collaborative efforts to enhance age-friendly educational practices. Dr. Porter has held notable positions in various community organizations, including chairing the Transportation Options Network for Seniors in Manitoba and leading committees focused on age-friendly initiatives at the University of Manitoba.
