Dr. Michelle Van Name

Biography

Michelle Van Name, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics specializing in Endocrinology at the Yale School of Medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree from Boston College and completed her MD at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in 2008. Following this, she undertook her residency training in Pediatrics at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, concluding in 2011, and completed her fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at Yale in 2014. Dr. Van Name's clinical interests include treating children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and obesity. She is actively involved in research aimed at understanding the physiological underpinnings of these conditions to advance treatment options. Furthermore, she leads clinical trials evaluating interventions for childhood obesity and diabetes. Dr. Van Name is also an Associate Director at the Yale Obesity Research Center (Y-Weight). Her commitment to education is evident as she enjoys teaching and engaging with her young patients and their families to encourage healthier lifestyles and inform them about available treatments, including medications and bariatric surgery. Dr. Van Name's work is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating closely with families and other professionals to provide comprehensive health plans for adolescents facing these chronic conditions.
