Biography

Michelle Wiebe is an Assistant Professor in Art Education at the University of Victoria. With a focus on curriculum instruction, she holds an EdD in Educational Leadership from the University of Montana and both MEd and BEd degrees from the University of Calgary, specializing in Curriculum & Instruction: Art Education and Secondary Art, respectively. Her research interests are rooted in empathy development in design and inspiring creativity among students. Dr. Wiebe is actively engaged in projects investigating artistic approaches to anti-racism and anti-oppression, striving to engage artists and university students in transformative actions within campus galleries. Recently, she co-applicated for the SSHRC Insight Development Grant alongside Dr. Natasha Reid and Natalie Le Blanc. Her commitment to education has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Faculty of Education Excellence in Teaching Award and various graduate and undergraduate student research awards. Michelle is dedicated to advancing the field of art education and fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students.
