Biography

Michelle Williams is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is currently the Associate Chair for Academic Affairs and her research primarily focuses on reproductive and perinatal epidemiology. Over the decades, she has integrated epidemiological, biological, and molecular approaches in her rigorously designed research to advance understanding of conditions such as placental abruption, gestational diabetes, and preeclampsia. Her research methodology includes identifying literature gaps, developing robust epidemiological data systems across various regions, and integrating biochemical molecular biomarkers. In 2019, she partnered with Apple Inc. and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to co-design and currently co-leads the Apple Women’s Health Study, a large-scale national study on determinants of women's gynecological health. With over 540 peer-reviewed publications, she has been recognized for her contributions in the field, including her election to the National Academy of Medicine in 2016. Additionally, she has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and mentor support throughout her career.
