However, during her rotation in dermatology clinics, she developed a strong passion for the field. Dr. Shinohara completed a dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and returned to the Seattle area, joining the faculty at the University of Washington in 2010 with dual appointments in Dermatology and Dermatopathology. In addition to her clinical work, she emphasizes mentorship and sponsorship for women who have been historically excluded from medicine. Dr. Shinohara is actively involved with the Board of Directors of the Women’s Dermatology Society and the United States Cutaneous Lymphoma Consortium, and she participates in the Association of Professors in Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatopathology.
