Professor Dr. Michiel Baatsen

Biography

Michiel Baatsen is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University, focusing on Marine Atmospheric Research with expertise in Dynamics and Meteorology. His research covers past warm climates, particularly during the Pliocene and Eocene epochs, utilizing climate model simulations with the Community Earth System Model (CESM). Baatsen’s work examines atmospheric dynamics, including variability in heat transports. He actively collaborates with various institutions, such as KNMI and NIOZ, on projects studying weather, climate, and extremes. He is passionate about storm chasing and exploring atmospheric phenomena. As a teacher, he delivers courses in Dynamical Meteorology and Earth System Modelling, contributing to the academic community through research and education in Earth sciences.
