Biography

Michiel Hochstenbach received his PhD degree in mathematics in 2003 from Utrecht University, Netherlands, under the supervision of Henk van der Vorst. He completed a brief postdoctoral position at Düsseldorf University before becoming an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he spent a sabbatical at ULB Brussels. In 2006, he joined the Department of Mathematics at Eindhoven University of Technology, where he is currently an Associate Professor at the Center of Analysis, Scientific Computing, and Applications. His research interests include numerical linear algebra, ill-posed inverse problems, numerical analysis, scientific computing, and the development of numerical algorithms and software. Throughout his career, Michiel has been recognized with several accolades, including an NSF grant from 2004 to 2007 and the NWO Vidi research grant in the Netherlands for the period of 2012 to 2017. He has received multiple paper awards and has served as a member of the editorial board of various journals. Additionally, Michiel has acted as an advisor and co-advisor to numerous PhD students, further contributing to the academic community.
