Professor Dr. Michiel Leezenberg

Biography

Michiel Leezenberg is an associate professor at the University of Amsterdam’s Department of Philosophy, specializing in the interrelation of philosophy and the humanities. He coordinates the Research Master in Philosophy and contributes to the M.A. program on Islam in the Modern World. His teaching encompasses Social Political Ideologies in Islam, as well as courses on Foucault, Humanities, and Comparative Philosophy. Leezenberg's research focuses on NWO-funded projects including 'Bildung as Enlightenment: An Interactional Perspective' and 'Sacred Secular: Genealogies of Self, State, Society in the Modernizing Islamic World'. He has published works addressing Islamic philosophy and contemporary philosophical discourse, and has made notable contributions to the field through his active participation in academic programs and workshops internationally. Leezenberg collaborates with other scholars, including Professor R. Peters, on key research initiatives that examine the nuances of modern Islamic thought.
