Biography

Michiel Piersma is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of International Relations at the Australian National University, where he associates with the Architectures of Peace Lab. He previously worked as a sessional lecturer in the Crawford School of Public Policy and the School of Politics and International Relations. Michiel earned his PhD in Politics from the University of Liverpool, expected in 2024. His research focuses on the politics of everyday intimate contests over land, water, and memory through the interdisciplinary lenses of political science, political ecology, and political geography. Currently, he is working on a co-authored article regarding imaginaries of emptiness in International Relations, and he collaborates on a cross-disciplinary research project at ANU exploring academic concepts of human-nature relations.
