Biography

Mieke Boon is a full professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Twente, specializing in Philosophy of Science and Technology. She has a solid background in scientific research within engineering sciences. Boon obtained her MSc in Chemical Engineering from Twente University of Technology with honors and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Technical University Delft, also with honors. Her career spans the coordination of multi-disciplinary research projects and active involvement in philosophical and ethical committees. Boon has developed a keen interest in the intersection of philosophy and engineering education, focusing on enhancing academic skills such as critical thinking among students. She aims to translate insights from her philosophical research into concrete educational practices in engineering disciplines, particularly in light of rapidly changing societal needs. Her ongoing research includes areas such as ethics in artificial intelligence, human expertise in digital societies, and the epistemological implications of scientific models.
